Hearing Loss and Cognitive Decline

Lin et al at John Hopkins University, followed 1,984 individuals between the ages of 36 and 90 years old.  None of the participants had cognitive impairment, but some did have hearing loss.  By 2050, 1 in 30 Americans will suffer from dementia.  Results of the study indicated that individuals with hearing loss have a greater risk of subsequently developing dementia than do individuals without hearing loss.
